What is Kung Fu Online?
Kung Fu Online is a website that provides Distance Learning services for primary or supplementary training in the arts of Kung Fu and Tai Chi as well as Self-Defense skills. You can read a complete description of our mission and model here: About Kung Fu Online.
What is “Distance Learning?”
Distance Learning simply means that the instructor and the student are in two separate geographic places. There are many, many people who do not have a school or an instructor near them, or there are scheduling, financial or other obstacles that prevent them from attending. In some cases, you may want to learn a specific skill or practice that’s not taught at your own school. Every person’s situation is unique, but it is the difficult cases like this for which Kung Fu Online’s Distance Learning program was created.
The instructor prepares the complete course, training modules and lessons and provides them online in digital format. The student accesses the course through a private login, can view or download the course materials, and can participate in training discussions specific to individual lessons. It’s not the same as live, hands-on training, but it’s also a massive improvement over tapes and DVDs.
Can’t I Find This on YouTube?
You can find some great training videos on YouTube and other video sharing sites. You can also find great articles and other resources elsewhere on the Web. You’re certainly welcome to try that first.
Kung Fu Online is also going to publish free videos to YouTube and the resources on the Web. But we’re also going to the next level. The format of our premium courses has been greatly influenced by the research of Daniel Coyle and the work of Izumi Tabata. We provide in-depth Master Coaching and video instruction, Ignition and participation, and Deep Practice through concise but detailed drills and training modules. The time, energy and attention to detail that goes into each curriculum is like nothing you will find anywhere else.
How Does the Online Training Work?
Kung Fu Online will soon be publishing a Getting Started Series that walks you through our unique approach to online training using our online training model. Kind of a live demo.
In the meantime, here’s a brief overview: A student can browse the course catalog and select a course they’re interested in. Depending on the course, they may either enroll, purchase the entire course curriculum, or purchase selected modules and lessons. They will then have access to the course materials right on the Kung Fu Online website.
Course materials typically include a Course Textbook in PDF format, suitable for viewing onscreen, transferring to a mobile device or printing. The textbook includes the complete lesson plan and training schedule for the course.
Following the lesson plan, students will access individual lessons that progressively build skill, knowledge and comprehension. Individual lessons are comprised of one or more Instructional Videos, Drill/Practice videos, and an interactive section with FAQs and discussion specific to that lesson.
Can I Download the Videos?
Yes. In addition to being able to view the videos online, we also provide download links to MP4 or M4V digital video files that can be copied to and played back on the iPhone, video iPod or iPod Touch, iPad or just about any modern smart device. We want you to have the flexibility to take your training everywhere you go.
Does This Require a Monthly Subscription?
Sometimes. The structure is set by the instructor for each course. Some courses have a single course fee that covers the entire lesson plan. Some courses may extend several months or more, and are based on “enrolling” and spreading the cost of the course over monthly payments. You can cancel a subscription-based course at any time, and keep all of the training materials that you have accessed up to that point.
What Happens If I Need to “Pause” My Training?
Life happens. We understand. If you are enrolled in an ongoing course and need to temporarily drop out for whatever reason, we can simply “pause” your training. When you come back, you’ll pick up right where you left off.
What Equipment, Training Gear or Uniforms Do I Need?
Each course will have it’s own specific requirements. Many courses or modules require no equipment at all. Others may use specific weapons or training equipment. In all cases, we’ll provide exact information about recommended gear, where you can purchase or even make your own. Uniforms or specific clothing is not required for the Kung Fu Online courses, although some instructors will make their apparel available so that online students can truly feel like part of the actual school or system.
Can I Share This With My Training Partner?
Absolutely, with a little common sense. Many courses have two-person drills, and it’s great if you can find a friend or training partner who shares your interest. In that case, feel free to share your training materials so that you can get the most out of your study.
However, please limit your sharing to one other person. Please don’t make copies for all your friends, post videos and coursework to file sharing sites or otherwise pirate this work. We’re trying to make the courses as affordable as possible, so please help us by not allowing others to steal.
In fact, we also have an affiliate program that allows you to EARN money for your referrals. Share your favorite courses with friends via your special link, and you’ll benefit each time someone new joins the training.
Can I Use the Training Materials in my School?
We’re flattered, really. Yes, please feel free to SHOW video modules in your school. However, please do NOT GIVE or SELL any course materials (videos, PDFs, print-outs, etc.) to your students.
If you do want to use these materials, contact us and we can customize content with your school’s logo and branding and provide a license for you to provide or re-sell customized course materials.
Similarly, if your school has unique training that Kung Fu Online does not currently offer, maybe you’d be interested in developing your own course and making it available on our platform. Contact us with your ideas and let’s discuss it!
